Gum Treatments

Definition of Healthy Gums

One of the main points addressed within the field of oral and dental health is gum health. The human body has a systematic operating principle, so oral and gum health are directly related to general factors of health.

Gum diseases encountered in the majority of society may cause more serious problems if left untreated. Individuals need to check on themselves and immediately consult a specialist upon realizing a difference in their gums in order not to end up in such a situation. But how do we understand the changes that may occur in our gums? The answer is quite simple: By knowing the details of a healthy gum.

What Are The Characteristics of A Healthy Gum?

A healthy gum looks dull and has a dusty rose (pinkish) color. It extends along in a firm way through the gum line and completely surrounds the teeth. Gum bleeding is the most significant sign showing that there is a problem in this area. Accordingly, healthy gums do not bleed, ache, or tingle. Gum bleeding caused by brushing or flossing is also among the factors displaying that gums are unhealthy.

Main Causes of Gum Bleeding

Gum bleeding may be caused by some diseases or may occur periodically. Gingivitis and periodontitis, also called gum inflammation, are the main diseases that cause gum bleeding. Gingivitis is a form of inflammation when it does not reach the bone tissue and periodontitis is another form when it reaches the bone tissue. If the gum bleeding is not caused by inflammation, other factors causing it can be listed as follows:

–  Making traumatic moves during dental care

–  Disturbance of the hormone balance in the body

–  Using medication belonging to the group of blood thinners

–  Untreated dental cavities

–  Malnutrition causing deficiency in vitamins such as C or K

What To Do For Healthier Gums

One must pay attention to oral and dental health for healthier gums. Teeth must be brushed regularly every day with a proper toothbrush and the toothbrush must be replaced at regular intervals. In addition, hard foods must not be bitten down on and too cold or too hot foods must be avoided since these kinds of behaviors may cause tooth enamel to crack.
